DTBird participated in the II Spanish Offshore Wind Congress!

DTBird’s CEO, Agustín Riopérez was invited as a Speaker and joined other four expert panelists to discuss the environmental value of Offshore Wind Farms, in the environmental session of the congress hosted by the Spanish Wind Energy Association (AEE in Spanish). It took place from November 6th till November 8th in Las Palmas, in Gran Canarias, and was carried out in the Auditorio Alfredo Kraus.

In the session, we shared how our system works and the benefits of employing a camera-based detection system to monitor birds located near offshore wind farms. Since our systems record activity and also (potential) collisions, we provide useful datasets for Operators, Developers, Environmental Administrations, and other stakeholders.

DTBird system installation on Saitec's DemoSATH platform

Saitec Offshore Technologies’ new DemoSATH platform, a two MW floating wind turbine deployment in the Biscay Marine Energy Platform (BiMEP) in collaboration with RWE Offshore Wind & Kansai Electric Power (KEPCO), features a marine DTBird model V4N2D10 consisting of four daylight and two thermal cameras along with ten speakers. The platform will operate during two years, at two miles off the Basque coast, in Armintza. The project scope includes bird monitoring, collision recording and avoidance by means of sound deterrence and WTG shutdown.

Detailed engineering was performed between both companies to ensure the correct location, fixing and connection of all of the DTBird elements as the platform was onshore assembled together in different phases in the port of Bilbao, Spain over the past year.

The data gathered will provide more insights on the presence, behavior, and collision risk of the local and migratory birds.

We are grateful to Saitec for placing their trust in our system and once again work jointly in a pioneering project for the Spanish Offshore sector.

DTBird systems are installed in French Offshore Project

2 years ago, DTBird participated and won an important Tender destined for the supply, installation, commissioning, and service of bird monitoring and collision reduction systems for a French Offshore project located in the Atlantic Sea. DTBird was selected as a Supplier based on previous experience at FINO1 Offshore Platform and the Kincardine Offshore Wind Farm among other aspects. Ever since then, the moment arrived for the installation of DTBird elements on the selected 3 WTGs temporarily located in the port before they are moved off to sea. The marine model installed comprises 8 daylight and 2 thermal cameras with 10 speakers. Precise engineering and attention to detail were given to propose the location, fixing, and connection of all DTBird elements to the Client and WTG Manufacturer.

This marks the first big marine project in French waters for the company, as such, it has contributed to the growth and development of company areas to meet the Client's standards. The modules and model involved allow for micro-site monitoring around the turbine. It's expected to gather abundant data on the species flying and nesting nearby the Wind Farm, hence it features strong environmental reporting to the local French Authority, the DREAL as well the participation of a third scientific party for the evaluation of the system's performance.

DTBird donates a Gas Filtration Cabin to GREFA!

This week DTBird donated a second-hand used Gas Filtration Cabin to GREFA, a Spanish wildlife recovery center located on the outskirts of Madrid. With the company's current business product division, there was no longer a need to use equipment such as this. With the previous visit to GREFA's installations at the beginning of the month, it was decided to donate the Cabin. It will be placed in the necropsy area to handle corpses with suspected infectious diseases. We are glad to give it a second life and boost the local circular economy!
