DTBat
DTBat's 11th anniversary!

In 2012 DTBat® was installed for the first time at a Wind Turbine Generator (WTG). DTBat® service is available on & offshore worldwide. It has already been installed in Austria, Belgium, France, Italy, Poland, Switzerland, Spain, and The Netherlands.

Automatic WTG shutdown connected to bat activity thresholds is the logical approach to protect bats while maximizing electricity production.

How does it work?

DTBat® has 2 modules: Detection and Stop Control. DTBat® Detection module uses ultrasound detectors (1 to 3) to monitor real-time bat activity. DTBat® Stop control module triggers the stop signal according to bat activity thresholds.

Offshore Redesign of Camera Housing

DTBird systems have been deployed successfully in an offshore environment since 2016, starting with the Offshore platform Fino1 (North Sea). Recently, a new and improved design for the cameras’ housing was developed. This housing gives greater protection against corrosion and humidity in a marine setting. For every wind farm, DTBird prepares a specific Engineering project to accommodate camera location, orientation and fixing to the wind turbine and/or transition piece, whether it’s a fixed or floating Wind Farm. New incoming Offshore projects will benefit it!

New Manufacturing Facilities and Company Areas

In recent months, DTBird strengthened and enlarged the organization and structure. Selection processes were opened, and the new employees were incorporated to develop the Human Resources, Legal, Research, Cybersecurity, Engineering and Manufacturing areas of DTBird&DTBat. Currently, there are more than 50 Technicians working behind the scenes.

The Manufacturing areas and offices have been expanded to accommodate more technicians, material stockage, tools and testing areas.

Automatic Bat Monitoring & Protection
DTBat® is a self-working System that detects bat presence in real-time, and takes automatic actions linked to bat detection.
Remarkable applications of DTBat® System are:
  • Autonomous Bat Monitoring.
  • Bat Mortality Reduction through automatic actions.
DTBat® Clients have access to the DTBat® System recordings through an online Software Application named DTBat® Data Analysis Platform (DAP).

BatAbout2
DTBat® Detection Module
DTBat® Detection Module surveys the airspace with Bat recorders, detecting and recording bat passes in real-time. Installation design and operational settings are customized for any Target Species and WTG dimensions.
DTBat® Detection Module is equipped with 1 to 3 Bat recorders installed at height on the WTG tower and/or on the nacelle. Recorders are placed in specific locations to achieve the best surveillance of the moving blades area.
DTBat® Stop Control Module
DTBat® Stop Control Module automatically Stops and restarts WTG according to bat activity detected in real-time and/or environmental variables.
Stop trigger and Stop duration criteria are adjustable to target Species or to cover a % of the total bat activity detected (e.g WTG stopped for 95% of the bat activity detected).

DTBird® has released the results of an independent study evaluating the detection capabilities of its latest bird monitoring models (F4, A4, F6, A6, and T). The assessment, conducted by the company, used a controlled field methodology to objectively measure maximum and effective detection distances for each model, providing wind farm operators and environmental managers with transparent, verifiable performance data. The evaluation involved controlled flights with a 1.42-meter wingspan avian-mimic drone, which simulated a medium-sized bird of prey. Flights were performed under stable weather conditions, covering a wide range of distances, angles, and trajectories. The drone’s GPS positions were synchronized with…
