8th Anniversary since first DTBird installation at a Wind Turbine

Although DTBird research program started in 2005, in Mach 2009 the first DTBird unit was installed at a wind turbine of Sammca Group, in Spain. Currently over 90 DTBird&DTBat units are distributed in 11 countries.
Ever since, DTBird has been under continuous evaluation, research and improvement process with incomes from scientists, computer engineers, ornithologists and veterinarians from many countries. Current DTBird specifications can be found in the link: DTBird System Specifications for Wind Turbines. February 2017.

U.S. Department of Energy funds evaluation of DTBird® System.

DTBird®, teamed up with the American Wind Wildlife Institute, has been selected to be funded by the U.S Department of Energy under the program “Wind Energy-Eagle Impact Minimization Technologies and Field Testing Opportunities”. DTBird® Detection and Collision Avoidance Modules´ ability to detect and to reduce the overall collision risk to eagles will be improved and evaluated. More specifically, researchers will assess how well the DTBird® Detection Module detects eagles, how strongly eagles respond to the sounds emitted by DTBird® Collision Avoidance Module, and calculate how much the DTBird® system reduces the overall risk to eagles.

22 DTBird® units will be installed during 3Q 2016

21 DTBird® units will be installed during 3Q 2016 in France, Greece, Spain and the USA, including the DTBirdV4D4 and DTBirdV4D8 models. In addition, a wind turbine will be equipped with the new DTBird® Detection Module for day & night.

Evaluation of the DTBird® Collision Avoidance Module presented in Wind Wildlife Research Meeting XI. Denver. Nov 29 - Dec 2, 2016

DTBird® has participate in the event with the poster "Evaluation of the Application of Warning and Discouraging Sounds Automatically Emitted from Wind Turbines on Bird Collision Risk: Case Studies in Sweden and Switzerland". This poster includes a summary of the evaluation of DTBird® Collision Avoidance Module placed in 2 wind farms, one in Switzerland and the other one in Sweden. After the evaluation took place, DTBird® upgraded those models and developed new models that are now available in the website download section.

Automatic Bat Monitoring & Protection
DTBat® is a self-working System that detects bat presence in real-time, and takes automatic actions linked to bat detection.
Remarkable applications of DTBat® System are:
  • Autonomous Bat Monitoring.
  • Bat Mortality Reduction through automatic actions.
DTBat® Clients have access to the DTBat® System recordings through an online Software Application named DTBat® Data Analysis Platform (DAP).

BatAbout2
DTBat® Detection Module
DTBat® Detection Module surveys the airspace with Bat recorders, detecting and recording bat passes in real-time. Installation design and operational settings are customized for any Target Species and WTG dimensions.
DTBat® Detection Module is equipped with 1 to 3 Bat recorders installed at height on the WTG tower and/or on the nacelle. Recorders are placed in specific locations to achieve the best surveillance of the moving blades area.
DTBat® Stop Control Module
DTBat® Stop Control Module automatically Stops and restarts WTG according to bat activity detected in real-time and/or environmental variables.
Stop trigger and Stop duration criteria are adjustable to target Species or to cover a % of the total bat activity detected (e.g WTG stopped for 95% of the bat activity detected).

DTBird® has released the results of an independent study evaluating the detection capabilities of its latest bird monitoring models (F4, A4, F6, A6, and T). The assessment, conducted by the company, used a controlled field methodology to objectively measure maximum and effective detection distances for each model, providing wind farm operators and environmental managers with transparent, verifiable performance data. The evaluation involved controlled flights with a 1.42-meter wingspan avian-mimic drone, which simulated a medium-sized bird of prey. Flights were performed under stable weather conditions, covering a wide range of distances, angles, and trajectories. The drone’s GPS positions were synchronized with…
